‘Higgins Productions’ creation of a new space for a small start-up Film Production com-pany. The exercise will explore the ability to harvest and deploy knowledge from shared precedent in order to establish a critique of an enduring 20th century structural-archi-tectural diagram. The program that has been set forth by the Production company is indicative of two types of environments for their Film Studio + Production Office Divisions, two functions which are historically housed separately herein are combined. Consideration of space for filming, should be integrated with controlled lighting with protection to outer sun exposure.
Inspired by the Sumida hokusai museum in Tokyo Japan by the Sanaa group. The main design approach focuses on the organizational spaces through the development of geometric, and the opening/slit conditions that generates both light and indication of circulation. The overall skin of the precedent was enclosed due to the function and the preservation of the exhibition, the same practice in a way that creates differentiation of function and natural light to travel into the building. The opening windows in the front facade indicate the front entrance and the sloping of the auditorium floor, and similar geometric solids are used to diffuse sunlight and add a layer of depth to the facade as well. The back facade is a relatively open one, with a big opening through the vertical circulation that allows different levels of view to the garden space. Additionally, through plan, the division of space is generated through a specific angle that is evident in the opening of the front entrance and the back entrance to the garden. Which allows one to travel in a way that reflects the geometry of the building, and a division of programmatic space that is applied throughout the building.
